Fiesta Programme for “Fogueres de Sant Joan” –\u00a0Festival of San Juan\u00a0– 11th June until 24th June 2016<\/p>\n
This popular fiesta enjoys the maximum participation from the town\u2019s inhabitants who belong to neighbourhood associations called \u201cpe\u00f1as\u201d and all fill the streets to participate in the traditional “bous al carrer” (bullrunning), parades with carriages, flower offerings, firework displays, etc.<\/p>\n
The “Hogueras\u201d make playful reference to current events in the town which pay homage to the ancestral tradition which involved burning old junk on the 23rd of June with the magical goal of purifying the body and soul prior to the Summer Solstice.<\/p>\n
\u201cEls focs de Sant Joan\u201d (St. John\u2019s Fires) which decorate the town\u2019s roundabouts are small bonfires over which the citizens jump one by one, decorated with garlands and flower decorations which are burned once the last fires have been jumped. Finally on the 24th of June, the monuments are burned in celebration of St. John’s holiday to conclude the festivities.<\/p>\n
